Woodland Wonders

Spiders

In Makaton Woodland Wonders Club pupils  focussed on the world of Spiders. They looked at the colour, shape and number of legs. Pupils concentrated on the Incy Wincy spider song and watched Charlotte’s Web. They talked about how the spiders spun their web in order to catch their food. The topic vocabulary words were spider, spider web, insect, black, silk, brown, eight, legs, crawl and eggs. Pupils looked at the life cycle and their habitat.

The pupils made paper plate webs using wool to demonstrate how the spider would spin and make the web. They proceeded to made spiders out of polystyrene balls, pipe cleaners and cupboard tubes.

Pupils made spiders out of biscuits, they used matchmakers for legs and Smarties for the eyes. Some children used pretzels and twiglets.
