I am writing to further update you with regards to the testing of secondary pupils and
staff in school which was announced on the 16th December.
Yesterday the government announced that Secondary schools will make a staggered
return to school in January. This is to enable staff to receive appropriate training and
ensure that schools have the appropriate measures in place to carry out testing in
The initial guidance indicates that this does not apply to Special schools and that all
pupils will be returning on the 4th January. What this means with regards to testing in
our setting is not clear. The guidance does indicate that testing is not mandatory in
school. Therefore, I will not be making any plans or implementing any testing regime
until we receive additional information when we return in January. I recognise that this
again causes uncertainty and leaves lots of questions still to be answered.
Until such time that any changes are directed, the school will continue to operate as it
has this term with regards to any staff or pupils that are displaying symptoms, receive a
positive Covid test or have been in close contact with anyone who has Covid. Should
anyone fall within these categories, then the school will direct that currently those
individuals isolate for 10 days as per the Government Guidelines.
The guidance of course may change as it often does and should I receive any further
information, I will of course update parents and carers at the earliest convenience.
Wishing you and your family a safe Christmas.
With very best wishes
